Overview

Welcome to Johns Creek.

Johns Creek is a master-planned upper-tier suburb roughly 25 to 30 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta. The 30024 ZIP code, which makes up the heart of the city, spans Fulton and Forsyth counties and touches a corner of Gwinnett. It is regularly named one of the safest and best places to live in America, and the reasons are consistent: exceptional public schools, an extensive award-winning park system, low crime, and a quiet, family-first atmosphere.

What makes Johns Creek stand out is the combination of a small-town feel with big-city access. Residents enjoy tree-lined residential streets, large community parks, country-club living, and a growing town center, all while staying connected to the wider metro through GA 400 and Peachtree Parkway. The city has done a remarkable job building a complete, self-sustaining community that does not require a daily trip into Atlanta.

Whether you are a growing family prioritizing schools, a professional who wants a short GA 400 commute with a quiet place to call home, or an investor drawn to one of the metro's most stable markets, Johns Creek 30024 delivers. It is a market built on fundamentals that hold up over time.

Tommy's Take

Johns Creek is one of those markets where the fundamentals do not move. Top schools, low crime, great parks, and a steady pipeline of homeowners who want to stay. That is a recipe for dependable value. Homes here tend to hold their worth and attract serious, qualified buyers. I have helped families buy and sell in North Fulton for years, and Johns Creek is consistently near the top of their list.

The 30024 ZIP code is served by some of the highest-rated public schools in Georgia, anchored by the Johns Creek, Chattahoochee, and Northview clusters in Fulton County Schools. Parts of the ZIP also fall in Forsyth County. These are among the biggest reasons families choose Johns Creek.

Feeder Note

School attendance zones in the 30024 area can vary by specific address, and the ZIP spans Fulton, Forsyth, and part of Gwinnett. Boundary lines are occasionally adjusted, and right now that matters more than usual: the Fulton County Schools Board authorized a capacity and attendance-zone review for North Fulton in September 2026, the first community forum was held October 7, and first proposed boundary maps are expected in November. Any changes could begin in 2027, and any school closures would take effect no earlier than August 2028; no closures or consolidations have been decided. I always recommend verifying the exact feeder pattern with Fulton County Schools before making a decision. I can help you check the zoning for any address you are considering.

Parks & Trails

Green space in 30024.

Johns Creek runs an award-winning parks system, and the city's western edge sits on the Chattahoochee River. From flagship community parks to quiet nature preserves, there is green space around every corner.

Community Park

Newtown Park

The city's flagship park on Old Alabama Road. The Mark Burkhalter Amphitheater hosts the free summer concert series, and the park also welcomes the Saturday farmers market and Taste of Johns Creek. Playgrounds, tennis and pickleball courts, trails, a small lake, athletic fields, and the award-winning Newtown Dream Dog Park round out the amenities. Recent city investments include a completed clubhouse, renovated pickleball courts, refreshed picnic pavilions, upgraded athletic field turf, a new synthetic cricket pitch, and field lighting, and the FY2027 budget funds replacement of the synthetic turf field plus new tennis and pickleball court lighting.

Athletic Park

Ocee Park

A 37-acre athletic hub on Buice Road with seven lighted turf ball fields, tennis and sand volleyball courts, basketball courts, walking and nature trails, playgrounds, and picnic pavilions. New LED field lighting is complete, a soft-surface walking trail is in the works, and a Miracle playground for inclusive play is among the newer additions. New wayfinding signage is on the way, and the FY2027 budget includes tennis and pickleball court lighting. Youth sports are run through the Ocee Park Athletic Association.

Nature Preserve

Autrey Mill Nature Preserve

Forty-six acres of ravine forest with more than three miles of scenic trails past a creek, rocky shoals, wildflowers, and native wildlife, plus a butterfly garden and historic buildings. New wayfinding and trail signs were installed in early 2026 to make the grounds easier to explore, the amphitheater has been renovated, and the Eagle Scout-built Warsaw Trail adds one more good reason to visit.

New Community Park

The Boardwalk at Town Center

Opened in May 2026 behind City Hall, the Boardwalk is the new anchor of the walkable Town Center district. A lakefront boardwalk, ponds, an amphitheater, and trails turn the city's downtown vision into a place residents can actually enjoy, and the park picked up a statewide public park award in September 2026. The pedestrian tunnel under Medlock Bridge Road links the park directly to the growing Medley district, and the city is weighing a 12-month food-truck pilot at the park.

National Park Trails

Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area

The Chattahoochee River runs along the western edge of 30024. The McGinnis Ferry, Abbotts Bridge, and Jones Bridge units of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area offer river access, fishing, kayaking, and miles of riverside trails; the Jones Bridge unit alone is home to a popular 4.3-mile loop. Just upriver, Cauley Creek Park (203 acres on Bell Road) adds a 3.1-mile rubberized 5K trail, lighted courts, river overlooks, and the Rogers Bridge pedestrian and bike bridge to Duluth, open since 2023, with the Rogers Bridge Road and Bell Road trail connectors completed in September 2025. Parking-lot work continues at Cauley Creek as the city prepares the greenway connection. The city is also planning a two-phase Chattahoochee River Greenway that would add about four miles of pathway along the river near Cauley Creek Park, part of the 125-mile Chattahoochee Riverlands vision. Phase 1 is a 1.1-mile multi-use path from Abbotts Bridge Road to the 5K trail at Cauley Creek Park, still under National Park Service coordination, including archaeology surveys on federal land, and the FY2027 budget includes a $500,000 grant to study a future trail connection between Town Center and Cauley Creek. Some of the best outdoor recreation in North Fulton.

Rustic Park

Shakerag Park

A rustic 66-acre park in northeastern Johns Creek with a nature trail under old-growth hardwoods, a stocked lake with a fishing pier, fields, playgrounds, and a storybook trail. One of the city's most peaceful spots.

The city feels planned and cohesive, with a predictable quality of life that owners value.

What's New in 30024

This is a big moment for Johns Creek. Medley, the 43-acre mixed-use heart of the Town Center, celebrates its grand opening October 28 through 30, 2026, with a ticketed preview October 28, a public ribbon cutting Thursday, October 29 at 10 a.m., and a family-friendly Halloween celebration on October 30. The debut brings a wave of new restaurants and retailers, including Shake Shack, Sephora, CRÚ Food & Wine Bar, STIR, Fadó Irish Pub, Ford Fry's Little Rey, Rena's Italian Fishery & Grill, Summit Coffee, and Lily Sushi Bar, with more arriving through 2027. Trader Joe's, Johns Creek's first, has been open at Medley since February 2026. Across the district, the Boardwalk at Town Center opened in May behind City Hall, giving residents a lakefront park, an amphitheater, and trails, and it earned a statewide public park award in September. The pedestrian tunnel under Medlock Bridge Road now links the park directly to Medley. Johns Creek finally has the walkable downtown it has been building toward.

Road and infrastructure work continues to shape the area. The Abbotts Bridge Road widening between Parsons Road and Medlock Bridge Road is well underway, alongside a separate GDOT project widening the corridor from Medlock Bridge Road to Peachtree Industrial. The McGinnis Ferry Road widening from Douglas Road to Hospital Parkway is adding a raised median, a multi-use path, and turn lanes through the corridor, and Johns Creek Parkway itself is being rebuilt through Town Center with on-street parking; the city's August 2026 project update shows the roundabout center island at Lakefield Drive complete with curbing still being poured. The Nesbit Ferry Road at Colony Club Drive roundabout and the Barnwell Road at Niblick Drive intersection improvement continue into the new fiscal year. The city's FY2027 budget, approved September 14, 2026, funds a synthetic turf field replacement at Newtown Park, tennis and pickleball court lighting citywide, and design work for a future recreation center. There is also a major greenway plan in the works: the city is designing a two-phase Chattahoochee River Greenway that would add about four miles of pathway along the river near Cauley Creek Park, part of the 125-mile Chattahoochee Riverlands vision, with a $500,000 grant secured to study a trail link between Town Center and Cauley Creek. And families should know that Fulton County Schools is reviewing North Fulton attendance boundaries: the Board authorized the capacity and attendance-zone review in September 2026, the first community forum was held October 7, and first proposed boundary maps are expected in November, with any changes taking effect no earlier than 2027 and any school closures no earlier than August 2028. For buyers and sellers, the takeaway is simple: this is a community investing in itself, and that momentum tends to support home values over time.
